Pilgrimage Itinerary
Depart from Chicago on our overnight flights to Europe. Meals served on flight.
Upon arrival in Ljubljana, we will be met by our tour manager who will be with us for the duration of our pilgrimage. Depending upon our arrival time, we may have a brief overview of the city on our way to Mass. Afterwards, we will transfer to our hotel for check-in, dinner, and overnight. (D) Mass – Overnight Ljubljana
After breakfast, we journey to the Central Market area where we journey by funicular railway to the 15th-century Ljubljana Castle, where we enjoy a guided tour. Upon return to the Central Market area, we will explore the Old Town, including several of the city’s beautiful bridges and squares. We’ll pass by the Robba Fountain and the Vurnik House, one of the most famous buildings in Ljubljana. We will also visit the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, where we will have time for prayer before continuing to a local wine bar for wine tasting. Afterwards, we return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D, Mass) Overnight Ljubljana
A short drive from Ljubljana lies the Alpine Lake Bled. Besides the charming town along the lakeshore, we will visit Bled Castle, the oldest in Slovenia. We will also journey across the lake via pletna boats to visit the Church of the Assumption of Mary on an island a little way offshore. After time in Bled, we return to Ljubljana for dinner and overnight. (B, D, Mass) Overnight Ljubljana
After an early breakfast, we depart our hotel in Ljubljana and journey a short distance to Kurešček, where the shrine to Our Lady Queen of Peace was rebuilt by France Spelic. After a brief tour and time for prayer, we continue our journey south to Zadar where we check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D, Mass) Overnight Zadar
Spend today in Zadar, the oldest continuously inhabited city in Croatia and home to the relics of Simeon, to whom the Lord was presented in the Temple on His 8th day. Our first church we visit today is the Church of St. Simeon, which holds his incorruptible mummified body in a sarcophagus above the altar. This afternoon, we journey to the Cathedral of St. Anastasia to venerate her stone sarcophagus near the high altar. Afterwards, enjoy a guided tour of the Church of St. Elias, containing a wonderful collection of icons dating from the 16th-18th century. This evening will be free for personal activities and dinner on our own. (B, Mass) Overnight Zadar
After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and journey to to the charming UNESCO Heritage town of Trogir. Built upon a tiny island, there is evidence it has been continuously inhabited since a Greek settlement was built in the 3rd century BC. The area is extremely walkable and we will enjoy some free time here before continuing to Medjugorje where we will check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D, Mass) Overnight Medjugorje
